Manipulative-based lessons

Manipulatives and games encourage students to investigate mathematical concepts and promote creative thinking.

The use of the manipulatives and games will also provide fun and interesting hands-on lessons for pupils to grasp/understand Mathematics concepts better and inculcate good habits of mind for pupils. The activities are also designed to allow students to see Math in a new light and learn to love the subject.

Most of the manipulatives and games that we will be using are from US-based Learning Resources. Learn more about the range of products available at www.learningstore.com.sg . The products have gone through 20 years of research and development by professional educationalists in the US .

Below are some manipulatives that we use for our school enrichment programmes. We can design a unique programme for the school based on the school's specific requirements and objectives.

Manipulative

Description

Base Ten

This unique set of Base Ten components conveniently interlocks to teach math concepts, value and grouping while enabling students to easily manipulate and visualize varying quantities. Older students can explore spatial relationships and volume.

Totally Tut Math Operations game

Reach the top of the pyramid on this colorful Egyptian-theme game board by combining basic math operations skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) with order of operations practice. Players trek their way across the rows of the pyramid by using numeral and operation triangles to create and solve math problems! But beware, your opponents can steal or swap your number triangles completing their pyramids first!

Iguana factor Multiplication game

What a great way to master multiplication tables! Friendly iguanas watch every move as kids use multiplication facts to reach their goal. Bumping and capturing moves make this game even more fun.

Classroom Clock Kit

Get the whole class involved in time-telling activities. Kit includes Big Time™ 12-Hour Demonstration Clock, 24 4" geared mini-clocks and Teacher's Guide.

Timing-it-right game

Kids play their way through a busy day of activities while building time-telling skills. Self-checking game helps build skills in telling digital and analog time.

Fraction Cubes

Snap these cubes together and see fraction concepts come together right before your eyes. Innovative Fraction Tower®Cubes fit together or into the base unit. Set includes 51 color-coded fraction cubes with fractions printed on them to show halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, eighths, tenths, twelfths and one whole.

Fraction games

Time to make a pizza! This clever game teaches fraction concepts and skills using slices of pizza to identify fraction denominations. Students play seven different games to practice identifying fractions, matching fraction equivalents and performing fraction addition and subtraction by building pizzas.

Who the winner will be is up-in-the-air but any way you cut the game is a great way to reinforce concepts of fractions and equivalencies. It's fun, quick-paced and easy to play - just be the first player to get three fraction pies in a row and you win!

Pattern Blocks

Use this set of 250 blocks, in six shapes and six colors, to explore patterns, symmetry, linear and area measurement, fractions and problem solving.

Geosolids

It just got easier to teach shapes, sizes and relationships with these colorful, plastic geometric pieces. Set of 32 includes 4 sizes of 8 shapes: triangular prism, cube, cone, cylinder, rectangular prism, hexagonal prism, triangular pyramid and square pyramid.

Snap-it-up Addition/Subtraction and Multiplication Game

This exciting, fast-paced card game provides kids with hard-hitting practice and math skills! Players pick and pass cards as fast as they can to make math equations. It's fast! It's crazy! And it's so much fun, kids will want to snap it up again and again!

Money Bags coin value game

Learning valuable money skills is in the bag as you collect, count and exchange money all the way to the finish line.

Geoboards

Use geoboards to teach shapes, angles, sets, measurement, number patterns and other abstract mathematical concepts.

Cuisenaire Rods

From direct instruction to classroom demonstration to student practice, these comprehensive, all-in-one kits have everything you need for hands-on math learning!

Relational Geosolids

Demonstrate the relationship among shape, size and volume with this set of 14 clear plastic geometric shapes. Hollow size-related spheres, cones, cubes, rectangles, cylinders, pyramids and polyhedra have removable stoppers, allowing you to fill them with rice or sand.

Fraction Equivalency Cubes

Illustrating the relationship between fractions, decimals and percents is a snap with this set of 51 color-coded cubes. Cubes feature fractions, decimals and percents clearly marked on each side, providing students with a visual representation of equivalencies.

Folding Geometric Shapes

Teach symmetry, perimeter, area, surface area and volume with this innovative folding geometric shape set. Each shape folds flat, making it possible to illustrate a 3-dimensional shape's 2-dimensional properties. Includes cylinder, square pyramid, cube, rectangular prism, cone, hexagonal prism, triangular pyramid and triangular prism with clear plastic casings.
